OUR PURPOSE

BoysAlert is more than stopping violence against women and girls, it’s about creating safe spaces for boys from home to career, providing services that help young people of ages 10 – 25 begin, change and advance their careers, dramatically creating economic opportunities for themselves and communities. 

THE PROBLEM

  • Malawi has no formal and structured career guidance and counseling services, according to TVET study of 2018.
  • 13% only of girls complete upper secondary school in Malawi, and among the poorest children this falls to 2%. Scary statistics.
  • 42% of girls are married before the age of 18, and 9% are married before the age of 15.
  • 11% of children (girls and boys) from poorest households complete primary school and upper secondary school completion rate is at 4%.
  • The dropout rate of girls in secondary education increased from 6.4% in 2020 to 9.5% in 2021 school.

WHAT WE DO (The Solution)

1.Career Guidance & Counseling

Whether you are a student, school leaver or recent graduate, under our career-counseling program, you’re covered. We work to uplift and support those who need help, to make sound decisions for their Home to Career professional journey. It’s a 50-50-split program, for girls and at-risk boys.

Program Detail

The program is designed to offer consulting, and developing an individual’s competencies in self-knowledge, educational and occupational choices. We’re disrupting an inequitable education to career ecosystem, so that everyone benefits from career guidance and counseling services- boys, girls, fatherless, living with disability and financially underserved, so they make informed decisions and decide best fit future course of action.

DELIVERY

Our counselors and mentors at our outreach centers, schools and at community educational activities readily support career-seekers. The conversation is always in safe places between a counselor and a career-seeker. Delivery is via;

  • Mass Media & Interpersonal Communications Channels such as; Radio, TV, Social Media and Events
  • IEC materials & Street Educators Sessions.
  • One-on-One at-Centre Counseling Sessions
  • In-School Counseling Sessions
  • Outdoor Community Peer Educational Talks

2. Education & Health Support

The voices of girls and boys (50-50 Split) from Malawi’s urban slums and rural communities cannot be heard and their needs cannot be met, unless there is someone who is listening to them. This is where BoysAlert comes in. The 50-50 Split ensures no one is left behind.

We believe it’s essential that those from fatherless homes and underserved communities are not left out of the equitable education opportunity conversation.

Education Support Services

Through our early childhood learning and employability skills training centers for girls and boys in Malawi’s urban slums, we are creating kid-leaders who have experienced first-hand, what it means to be underserved and have lived urban slum life.

We believe they’ll become advocates for their communities in the near future, when time to harvest the fruits of their labor is at hand and they will break the perennial chain of urban poverty in their communities.

Our Services:

  • Enroll at our Tuition-Free Kids Early Learning Centers.
  • Enroll for FREE Job-Readiness Skills Programs.
  • Enroll for Remedial Classes in Soft Skills & Numeracy.
  • Education Scholarship for Pre-School to Secondary. Sponsorship provides for a child’s educational, nutritional, medical and essential support supplies.
  • Free MEALS, Uniforms & Schools Supplies.
  • Free First Aid so they stay focused

Expected Outputs:

  • Graduates become change-makers of urban poverty in their communities.
  • Educating a girl-child in Malawi, means uplifting the whole family economically.
  • Once lives improve in communities, it means every child will break the cycle of poverty and fewer people will contract sexually transmitted diseases including HIV. Education is a powerful tool for tackling education gaps, gender based violence and growth of local economies.
  • Via our Media Spotlight platforms, sponsors and donors will be featured. This will come together with a report sent twice annually to you, that includes; Pictures of updates on students’ progress in school and a thank you letter, including a feature of student in on our blogs.

Giving $100 a month or $1,000 a year, you can sponsor one of our entrepreneurial-kid leader’s education.
